Homeowners with a country house could be sitting on a larger equity release goldmine than they may have expected.

Country properties in a good location are now worth 4.3 per cent more than they were a year ago, according to the Knight Frank Prime Country House Index. In London and the Home Counties, this figure jumps to 9 per cent.

Andrew Shirley from Knight Frank says that foreign buyers in the south-east are a major cause for such high growth.

He points out that by purchasing a house without selling on in this country, they are diminishing the available stock.

However, homeowners in a prime location do not need to sell their home to reap the rewards. By entering into an equity release scheme, they could withdraw funds whilst remaining in their home.ADNFCR-3040-ID-19733071-ADNFCR
