Close pensions gap with equity release

The government has been urged to encourage larger private pensions, rather than lower public sector ones to close the pensions gap.

Whilst pension reform is still up in the air, homeowners can always release equity from their house to get extra cash. To see how much they could extract from their home, they could check out an online equity release calculator.

Joanne Segars of the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) has warned against "ratcheting down" public sector pensions, stating that their research showed that only one in four people thought that was the answer to the pensions crisis.

She also points out that over half of those polled thought that private sector pensions needed raising, so as not to build barriers between the two workforces.
