The skills women bring to the boardroom are being passed up by nearly two-thirds of businesses, according to new research. The Government Equalities Office has put forward plans to the Financial Reporting Council for keeping a close eye on how many women are employed in senior positions. Prime Minister Gordon Brown says "serious action" may be needed to put these proposals into effect, on meeting top female execs on International Women's Day. He says: "We all recognise the value of strong role models for women in all walks of life, but there are too few in Britain's boardrooms." And this gender gap needs to be filled after the news that women are putting themselves at risk financially during retirement – due to relying on their other half.
