SHIP has welcomed the news that the government has decided to tackle the nature of the UK benefits system.

The equity release trade body has a strong interest in the move as they aim for clarification on how means-tested benefits and equity release schemes interact.

SHIP's director general, Andrea Rozario, remarks that it is "high time" for the review and it should ensure that consumers are not hurt financially for trying to get a job or take "other proactive steps to improve their quality of life."

She also comments that "the government's announcement highlights its realisation that the current system is not meeting the needs of the general public."

SHIP has recently undertaken research that they will take to the government, with the aim of clearing up any confusion about benefits and equity release.ADNFCR-3040-ID-19919014-ADNFCR
