SHIP has welcomed the government's publication of the terms of reference for the Commission on the Funding of Care and Support.
This comes after Health Secretary Andrew Lansley set up the commission in order to examine how long-term care will be paid for.
Andrea Rozario, director general of SHIP, comments that "the problem of the UK’s ageing population is not a new one, but we have yet to see a comprehensive solution to the problem of funding social care."
She goes on to remark that many people are unaware that equity release can be used to fund home-based care, whilst allowing the patient to remain in familiar surroundings.
SHIP's top woman went on to disclose how her organisation would "welcome the chance" to be part of the government's discussions and promote the use of equity release to fund social care.
