SHIP have declared their delight at the findings of Age UK's report into equity release usage, which we reported on yesterday.
Laurie Edmans, chairman of the equity release trade body, remarked that: "Age UK is a hugely respected voice on issues affecting the over 55s and we are delighted that they have chosen to review the equity release market in more detail."
The report showed that a third of people with an equity release scheme are paying off debts with the cash they extract from their home.
It also revealed that two-thirds of people chose equity release plans so they didn't have to move away from friends or family.
SHIP's chairman continued by commenting that "with 97 per cent of respondents saying they felt satisfied that the plan they took out was the right one for their needs, this study goes a long way towards dispelling some of the myths about equity release."
