Older homeowners face an "invisible wall of ageism" as they look to work into the future, meaning they may want to release equity to provide them with more money.
Government figures show that 300,000 people aged 50 or over have been refused a job based on their age over the past five years.
Michelle Mitchell from Age UK remarks that "for older workers, the job market is still not fit for purpose."
And there are fears that more people will need an equity release scheme in the future as another 750,000 people in the age group may become classed as unemployed as the government plans to alter incapacity benefit rules.
Michelle Mitchell continues by remarking that "before forcing people to rejoin the job market or work for longer, the government must lay the foundations of a better job market for older people."
