Equity release schemes could help retired people release some of the value in their homes as a new study has shown that the value of the country's housing stock has doubled over the last ten years.
According to figures from Halifax bank the total value of the UK's privately owned houses has increased from £1,179bn in 1999 to £3,755bn in 2009.
The increase in value of over £2,000bn over the last decade works out as equivalent to £33,000 per head of population.
An equity release scheme can help you to unlock some of the extra value that's built up in your house, potentially giving you extra income and making your retirement more comfortable.
