House prices rose by 9.5 per cent over the second quarter of 2010, compared to the same period in 2009, which means more cash can be extracted by homeowners with an equity release scheme.
This has brought the average UK house price closer to the £170,000 (£168,719) mark according to the Nationwide, who released the figures.
Martin Gahbauer from the building society added that "the South West of England saw the strongest growth in the quarter, with prices up by a seasonally adjusted 3 per cent. This resulted in a pick up in annual growth from 8.9 per cent to 12.5 per cent."
To find out how much equity you can release from your home, whatever region you're in, why not check out an online equity release calculator? You could be sitting on a tidy nest egg without even knowing it.
